# Declare an incident from Slack

Review a Slack proposal in Tellagen before you declare its incident.

## Before you start

### Intended audience

Responders who start incidents from an installed Tellagen Slack workspace.

### Required permissions

You need Slack access and permission to create incidents in Tellagen.

### Prerequisites

- Install the Tellagen Slack integration for the correct workspace.
- Use a current Slack proposal that contains Review incident.

## Procedure

<a id="phase-review-the-proposal"></a>

### Review the proposal

<a id="step-open-the-review-link"></a>

1. **Open the review link.** In the Slack proposal, select Review incident. The signed link is time-limited and workspace-specific.

<a id="step-review-source-context"></a>

2. **Review source context.** Review the Imported from Slack card. Make sure that the source channel and message match the incident.

<a id="step-review-reply-context"></a>

3. **Review reply context.** Review the suggested Slack reply. Edit it only when the declaration needs different response text.

<a id="step-review-images"></a>

4. **Review images.** Review each imported image preview. Remove any image that contains unrelated or sensitive content.

### Prevent duplicates and declare

<a id="step-review-related-incidents"></a>

5. **Review related incidents.** Review related incidents separately. Continue only when this proposal represents new incident work.

<a id="step-resolve-a-blocked-import"></a>

6. **Resolve a blocked import.** If Slack source import is required, declaration stays blocked until Tellagen can import that source safely.

<a id="step-declare-the-incident"></a>

7. **Declare the incident.** Select Declare incident. Tellagen creates the incident and records its Slack source context.

## You are done when…

The new incident includes its reviewed Slack source without exposing the signed handoff URL.

## Troubleshooting

<a id="troubleshooting-couldn-t-load-slack-messages"></a>

### Couldn't load Slack messages.

Select Try again when the error is retryable, or create the incident without the messages and add the context later.

<a id="troubleshooting-a-related-open-incident-is-shown"></a>

### A related open incident is shown.

Check the related incident before creating another one. Create a new incident only when the response is separate.

<a id="troubleshooting-the-signed-link-has-expired"></a>

### The signed link has expired.

Return to Slack. Request or open a new incident proposal.

<a id="troubleshooting-the-imported-source-is-from-another-workspace"></a>

### The imported source is from another workspace.

Stop the declaration. Open Review incident from the correct Slack workspace.

<a id="troubleshooting-declaration-is-blocked-by-source-import"></a>

### Declaration is blocked by source import.

Wait for the safe import to finish. Retry from the current signed proposal.
